My Project
In the words of one of my students, Juliet, “I’m so excited to be doing the Choose Your Champion project because it gives me the chance to be able to research an activist of my liking.
Being able to choose who my champion was is extremely motivating for this project, making me want to engage in the activities and learn more about my social change leader, especially since I resonate with them on a personal level.
Getting more books and materials for other activists would make a difference in our learning space - and for future students doing this project - because there would be a larger selection of easily available options. Students would be able to choose a person who speaks to them and not have to worry about having to find their own book, which for some, is not possible.
The goal for this project is for my peers and me to be able to create an argumentative and expository speech synthesizing three different sources to support our thesis on whether or not our person deserves national recognition in the form of a monument. This project is meant to deepen our critical thinking and critical awareness as well as our self- awareness skills in order to be able to interact with the world around us in an informed way."
