My Students

Did you challenge yourself with AP classes in high school? Did you have lots of choices and great teachers to support you? I'm trying to build an AP Chemistry class to give my students an edge when they get to college, and I need your help.

I work in a large comprehensive urban high school with students almost exclusively of poverty.

Our school is relatively new and we are still building our program. Students that I work with are incredibly motivated but severely lacking in the way of skills development. While they will be the first in their families to go to college and that is an accomplishment in itself, I strive for more. I don't want them to fall flat on their face when they get there- but to feel prepared and confident to be successful at the collegiate level.

My Project

I am offering AP Chemistry for the VERY FIRST TIME at my school and I (my students) need laboratory activities (and a fire blanket for safety) to support us. Students will use the activities on a weekly basis to conduct in laboratory investigations and develop skills of collecting and recording data, explaining and presenting their results, and writing about their results. All of these skills are imperative for their success.

I want my students to challenge themselves to take this class because I know that it will help them be successful in the future, no matter what profession they choose.

Your donation of lab materials and fire blanket will be the first step in helping us get there. Thank you for your consideration.
