Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology has changed science so much in ten years! With that change, the way we teach science has also changed. An inquiry-based approach and biotechnology in the classroom is the new standard.

My students come from high poverty in the inner city.

Despite many socioeconomic challenges, my students have dreams of graduating from college and contributing back to their community. My school is a math, science and technology magnet academy within a large public city school.

My Project

With these new AP biology lab kits, my students will be able to conduct inquiry-based lab investigations as suggested by the College Board. They will have access to an academic challenging and rigorous course, as well as an opportunity to earn college credit. They will also have access to biotechnology, which was not previously available. Students will enhance their lab skills, and develop into critical thinkers with the ability to design their own labs, bringing a sense of discovery into the classroom.

In order to be academically prepared for college, today's high school students must have access to rigorous courses.

Our students of the inner city need the same college prep programs with the same lab equipment as those offered in more well-to-do cities. Donations to fund this project will help start a new AP biology course that will continue in future years. This project will impact our students by allowing them to have experiences in biotechnology and prepare for college.
