87% of my students are from low-income households and many of them have to use public trains and buses just to get to school. Some even travel over an hour each way. My students are making an active decision to better their education by attending our school.
Our school is an honors for all high school, meaning that each of my students is in honors-level courses.
Not only do we cover honors level material, but we expect our students to participate in labs, activities, and think beyond the standard curriculum.
My Project
Both of these labs will allow my students to see evolution and natural selection occurring in real time. It's difficult to learn science just through books and worksheets. Students need to be able to do hands on activities to enhance the topics they're learning.
Both of these labs provide hands on materials to my AP Bio students, who often don't have ample science materials.
At our low income school, science materials are hard to come by, especially full labs with live organisms. These labs allow my students to have the opportunity to plan and discuss their own results and experiment!
