This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever been in a room with 22 six and seven year-olds? You can imagine all of the questions that come to their minds, especially when they are introduced to a new topic or idea. Many times answers to those questions come easily. However there are many times when the teacher needs help.
I teach First Grade.
Most of my students are between the ages of 5 and 7. I have 12 girls and 7 boys in my class. The school is a low income school lacking a lot of useful resources. Most students in my class are in the process of learning English as a second language.
My Project
Most first graders have many questions that they are seeking answers for. Whether they want to know if pineapples have seeds or the meaning of a word, my job is to help them find the resources to find those answers.
My students are encouraged to ask questions and then find answers to those questions through the use of various resources. Some of their questions can easily be answered by asking another student, looking it up in a book or through the use of a computer. Sometimes their questions can't be answered so easily.
An iPad would help us find information instantly without having to wait a week until our next library visit or waiting 15 minutes for our old classroom computer to start up, while crossing our fingers that the Internet will work.
The iPad would also be useful when connected to a document camera to share images for the whole class to view.
Your donation to this project will help make learning more fun for my students.
An iPad will help us find answers to some very important questions instantly. Students always have questions that need to be answered. Some can wait but for others it is best that they be answered right away. For example, if a student wants to write about a platypus and asks for some information about it, we can easily look it up so that he/she can begin writing right away.
