This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Calling All Flutists! As the trilling flute rivals that of a joyful bird, it is becoming a rare sound in my classroom due to lack of funds for our music program.
I teach music at a low-income elementary school where all students receive free lunch and hardly any students can afford to purchase or rent an instrument.
Luckily, I am at a charter school that supports the arts but we depend on donors and other supporters to help with our music program. As we build our program, we are trying to add better quality instruments to the brass and woodwinds sections.
My Project
The students love to play and many use music to express themselves. They are learning lessons that will be with them for the rest of their lives. They are learning to read music, understand music theory, and listen to great performers to form their own vision of being a great musician now and in the future. By giving them flutes to play, they will be establishing a permanent part of their music life!
You will be able to put a flute into the next great flutist’s hand.
You will be able to give a child the opportunity to express and communicate the many emotions and statements that only music can. It's up to You. Thank you for caring about music education!
