This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is located in the state of Washington at a Title I school. Students are hardworking, kind, eager individuals. Many students are first- and second-generation citizens from Africa, South America, North America, and Asia. About forty-two percent of students qualify for English Language Learner services, and up to fifty percent of students speak a language other than English in the home.

Our differing cultures, backgrounds, economic statuses, and languages provide richness in the classroom.

However, we also face challenges. One challenge is that we are incredibly underfunded. There are so many learning opportunities I wish I could have with my students if only I had the means.

My Project

Please help get books for my students!

We need books on anti-racism such as Let's Talk About Race, Same Same but Different, Whoever You Are.

Stories about the realities of racism that call or change such as Not My Idea, Ghost Boys, New Kid.My students need books to help them celebrate their cultures. Such books include I Am Farmer: Growing an Environmental Movement in Cameroon. The need books to promote self love such as I Am Enough. Because students spend so much time in school, schools have a critically important opportunity and responsibility to ensure that all students get the support and help they need to become empathetic and tolerant.

I want my classroom to be a place that brings out the best in my students. The books I'm asking to purchase, with your help, are also a better representation of my students.

I'm asking for books about amazing people of color, books to better understand and build empathy, and everyday stories with characters that match the diverse racial and cultural backgrounds of students in my class. By reading about these role models and everyday people, students will be motivated to set goals and reach them.

With how turbulent American society has become students need this character education and diverse representation of characters more now than ever. Students deserve to be reminded that good people support them, will help them get supplies, and they need to be taught how to support one another. These books will help mold the minds of my young impressionable students for the better. Please donate and help my students become the amazing people they can and will be. Thank you!
