My Students

C.S. Lewis once said, "You can make anything by writing." Help my students develop their writing skills by providing them with personal offices to foster creativity and critical thinking.

I teach at a Title I school, with a very high population of non-native English speakers.

However, our school has achieved an "A" rating (through our very high Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test scores) for the past 12 years! My students have many obstacles to overcome, but they work hard and they succeed. Language development in school is an integral component to their success, especially because many of my students come from homes that cannot foster such English language development. Often times, my students are in charge of translating for the older generations in their households. To continue to be successful in school, they need to have lessons presented in an interesting and engaging manner. Through the use of the easel and other supplies requested, students will create and share their thoughts and ideas with both classmates and their families at home.

My Project

I would like to provide my students with their own "office space." A space where they feel free to think, write, and create whatever their imaginations can dream up. Many of my students are reluctant writers due to limited language skills and life experience. By providing them with privacy partitions, students will feel as if they have been transported into a place designed for them to organize their thoughts and ideas. Having had this private thinking space, students will be more open to sharing their writing with other students. This exposure to each other's ideas will in turn inspire even more creativity. Students are always most comfortable writing about things they know, so the journals requested will be a great place for them to start putting their ideas down on paper. With the other items requested, (pencil sharpener, art caddies, and staplers), my students will be able to create a variety of writing projects including but not limited to individual and class books.

As an educator today, it is my job to inspire creative thinkers and problem solvers.

The materials requested in this project, will help to provide a safe, comfortable space in which my students can begin to develop these skills.
