My students are in sixth grade and come to me for ELA. Through my class, my students are learning to become stronger readers, writers, thinkers, and listeners. They embrace every strategy that is taught to them with eagerness and enthusiasm.
My Project
Annotating a text is one of the main skills I focus on teaching in my ELA class. Purposeful annotations are a gateway to reading for understanding. They make student's thoughts visible as they read. Using materials such as highlighters, colorful pens, and markers, and vibrant post-it notes makes learning and practicing this vital skill much more fun and creative for the students. Having a variety of supplies also allows for students to practice other strategies like color-coding pieces of texts and essays. The desk organizers will serve as a place to put together "annotation stations" containing all of these great tools.
