My students need novels to write in that they can keep and look back on for years to come.

My Students
I teach an absolutely wonderful group of sixth graders that love to learn. These students are good young men and women to the core that always give their best effort—they are bright and jump into their work quickly.
There are 27 students in my literacy class and this year I want to challenge them in every way I can and give them the best.
They absorb information so quickly and I want them to take all that they learn with them.
My Project
I want to get my sixth grade students ready for middle school by learning how to annotate the novels they are reading! It always shocks me when students use the school books and can't write in them! How are they suppose to remember all they learned and the sentences that changed the way they thought of the world if they can't take it with them?
I want my students to be able to take what they've learned and keep it with them forever.
I want them to look back on "A Wrinkle In Time" and show their own kids what they learned and what they thought of the book.
Each student will get their own novel to write in and keep with them forever. The students will be given lessons on how to annotate text and will practice with the novels we are reading this year: "A Wrinkle in Time", "Esperanza Rising", and "The Phantom Tollbooth". Being able to write in their novels is an unique experience, but important skill that most student sadly don't learn until college when they're forced to learn on their own. We will be learning how to annotate with fun and enjoyable texts that they can relate to to build those strong foundational skills.
