This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an early college high school in Arizona. Our students take community college classes at S. M. Community College and have the potential to graduate with their Associate's degrees when they graduate from our high school. We also have an agricultural focus at our school and one of those pathways is Animal Science. Students in my Animal Science classes are excited to get to do hands-on labs and activities. Students who take this class are generally interested in pursuing careers working with animals or careers in the healthcare industry. They want to learn more about animals, their health, nutrition, anatomy, and physiology so they can be better prepared for the kinds of careers they will one day pursue.
My Project
These materials would make a difference in my classroom by allowing us to purchase several different lab and science materials for students to gain more hands-on experience with the topics we are covering. I believe that the best way to learn is by doing and it is always my goal to provide as many engaging and hands-on experiences as possible for them. By receiving this grant, my students would be able to gain materials like preserved animal specimens for dissections, kits to study animal behavior, microscopes for analysis of animal cells and tissues, prepared slides of several different kinds, and several other materials that would greatly enhance their experience in my classroom and better prepare them for future careers they may have in or out of the animal industry. Many of these materials will be able to be used for several years to come by future students in my Animal Science classes.
