Animal Compassion and Observation!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars come from very diverse backgrounds, and some of them come with social-emotional issues. About 96% of the students at my campus receive free or reduced lunch. We are a Hispanic dominant population, with English as a second language. We are a Dual language campus with a mission: “Reading our way to success.”

Hurricane Harvey brought devastation to our community and our entire city.

Our campus faces a lot of challenges this school year. Being able to bring my students lessons on animal compassion and social-emotional support would be a dream come true.

My Project

My project will allow for my students to better study and enjoy our current classroom pets. This will allow for proper habitat for our pet fish "Gilly", our Madagascar hissing cockroaches, our new addition the ant farm, and the Live Butterfly kit that will show my students the stages of the butterfly, and the role they play in nature.

The aquarium will give our pet fish Gilly more room to swim around, and the students will be able to see him swim more.

The terrarium will allow my scholars to interact with the hissing cockroaches, and be able to take more responsibility in feeding, and properly taking care of them.

Having an ant farm in my science lab will give my scholars a visual of what happens underneath the surface of the earth. Ants are amazing insects and their skill work is unmatched. Bringing awareness to my students that no matter how big, or small all animals have roles to play and their lives matter.
