My students need a power mobility chair to help her quality of life as she fights cancer. Diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, her bravery has touched my heart.
Some people never get to meet their hero, and I get to teach mine! The classroom is fun and exciting--filled with endless possibilities. We learn something new every day! My students are always smiling and laughing in my room. They're a team that encourages and supports each other in reaching their goals!
Meet B.
The strongest first grader I know. She is brave, courageous, and an inspiration to everyone who meets her. In Nov. 2014, B was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. After 33 radiation treatments, she suffered a bleed around the tumor leaving her unable to receive any further medical treatments. As a result, she is unable to walk and needs significant physical assistance. She has extreme weakness on her left side making using a manual chair impossible. She is unable to navigate her wheelchair forward, backward, and around. While undergoing treatments, her only wish was to come back to school.
In Fall 2015, she reentered our school eager to learn and rejoin her friends. Her fight to continue her education has inspired each student at my school. Despite facing struggles on a daily basis at school with mobility and difficulties in reading, math, and writing, she comes to school smiling and never stops trying! Her determined spirit warms the heart of anyone she meets.
My Project
Strength is a child fighting cancer with a smile on their face and hope in their heart. I have known B as a sweet and friendly kindergartner and then have followed her through her months of treatments and seen a strong fighter emerge. Now she is a dedicated and determined first grader back within our classroom. She is driven and hardworking but held back due to her difficulties in mobility. This wheelchair will help B's ability to keep up with her first grade classmates. She will be able to move about our classroom and school with ease. She will be able to engage in the classroom environment and interact with her friends in activities. It will help her manage her fatigue and give her the strength to endure a longer school day. A powered wheelchair will give this little fighter the independence she needs while helping her build her self confidence. B continues to beat and defy the odds. And with this wheelchair, she will be able to continue her fight against cancer.
These donations will help B stay engaged, give her endurance, and allow her to participate more fully in our classroom.
It will allow her to access her education with more ease and build her self confidence. There would be no words to describe the opportunities that could happen for her when a powered wheelchair is introduced to her everyday school day.
