My students need manipulatives to enhance math understanding. They need a Real-World Math Problem Solving Kit, Conversions Hands-On Measurement Center and Black Write & Wipe Markers.

My Students

"Tell me and I forgot. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." For me, the goal of teaching has never been to drill facts, but rather to ignite a desire for learning in all of my scholars.

I teach at a high poverty school in North Carolina.

My students are curious and have a love for learning through real-world situations. 5th grade remains a transition year for students, which makes understanding basic math skills that much more important.

My Project

My scholars lack knowledge of basic math problem-solving skills that are expected in 5th grade. Imagining a problem just does not have the same affect as actually experiencing it. With these math materials, my mathematicians will have the opportunity to be engaged in real-world problems that they can solve. Scholars will enjoy learning how to solve word problems that seemed frightening at first. With these hands-on activities, students will have the opportunity to practice word problems in an engaging way. These math kits will allow students to self-check and complete independently while I am working with small groups.

By using these materials in my classroom, my students will be able to make learning more meaningful to them.

Scholars will be able to approach math word problems without fear when they have positive experiences with solving problems.
