This project is fully funded

I am a second grade teacher at Indian Trail Elementary. The students in my class come from a variety of backgrounds and learn to work as a close knit community. Second grade is an exciting time in a child's life. Most have become readers and are able to choose books of interest. It is my desire to mold students who love reading. I encourage them to choose books that they want to learn from, or a book that makes them smile on a rainy day. I hope that reading becomes a passion and a habit in which they love. In this proposal I have chosen 16 books by author, Patricia Polacco. From my experience, children love her stories. She captures their imaginations with her whimsy characters and her heart-felt stories. I want students to explore authors and realize that they too can have a favorite. I can't wait to say, "If you liked that one, there are many more read!". Students should be able to choose books of interest but also books of favorite authors. I believe that Patricia Polacco could be one of these. At the end of the year I hope my students can say, "One of my favorite authors is....." and whether they choose Polacco or Dr. Seuss, I will have done my job. Thank you for considering this proposal.
