Our students have a room for physical education, but no materials. We want a champion basketball team but lack the resources to develop that team bond and intense skill training. Basketballs are very old and don't stand up to average use. They don't need to study ancient history, they live in it!
We are an inner city school with an ancient building that qualifies for the National Registrar of Historic Places.
While we can't change that piece of history, we want to make our own history by building a basketball team with the only 'young' things in the building: our students. We have had to do without so many things but this is a crucial area for us.
We want a basketball team to develop team building skills, healthy bodies and sharpen our minds for academic studies. This incentive will encourage our students to complete their academic studies so they can participate in these team sports that we are attempting to develop. Our students are economically challenged but have dreams and desires to change that. You can help them reach this goal by helping them develop their healthy bodies with this team sport.
My Project
Many students think that basketball is grabbing a ball and trying to hit a hoop before the other guy does. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, using these simple but vital materials will help these students learn team skills, trusting their team members to 'have their back' and develop agility on the court. Bean bags being tossed while rolling around on scooters helps to develop fine and gross motor skills at the same time. Learning to work as a team will give them cognitive skills in the classroom as many core subjects require them to work as a team to develop a final project.
Your donation will positively change the lives of students here.
They don't have these materials and your gift will help them attain skills they might not have otherwise. There is only so much you can do in four walls without the vital supplies necessary to develop their bodies and their minds. You can make a difference in a child who might not even stay in school but for this opportunity. Please reach out and help us! You will not regret it!
