Would you ever purposely avoid changing the oil in your car? I know I wouldn't! Just like your car, our band instruments need routine maintenance. We are requesting basic cleaning supplies, lubricants and neck straps to protect the longevity of our instruments.

In an otherwise dreary, lifeless hallway lives a our band program - truly a world on to its own! While many schools have lost their music programs in recent years, we feel blessed to still have an amazing band program. We are a large, Title I school in an extremely diverse setting. Our students regularly participate in local and regional festivals. This year an unprecedented 42 students from our school were selected to participate in All-County! My students are energetic, compassionate and through their hard work and determination, inspire me to be a better teacher!
My Project
Many of my students enter the band program with limited or no past band experience and the vast majority cannot afford their own instrument. Through immense fund raising and grant writing efforts I have expanded the program to reach 220+ students each school year. Since many of our students share school-owned instruments, a great deal of routine maintenance and repair is needed to alleviate the every day wear and tear. We are requesting Blue Juice, swabs and Slide O Mix to lubricate and clean the brass instruments, as well as new neck straps for our saxophones because many of our straps are broken. Finally we are in desperate need of a new snare drum, as ours is held together by string and duct tape!

Our band is a community which gives students a sense of belonging, hope, pride and spirit. With your support, I will be able to better maintain the instruments, thus reaching both current and future generations of deserving children.
