My Students
There is no budget for our middle school music department but that hasn't stopped us yet! We love to think big and our goal is to reach and inspire students through performance, community and school service projects, and creating points of pride through our chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
There are over 900 students in our middle school and we have great cultural diversity.
With over 85% of our students being eligible for free or reduced lunch; there is no budget for the music department! Between two music teachers, we have a band, a chorus and a ukulele/general music class. Every day, we see around 250 to 300 students creating and performing. We're proud to say that they are confident and independent! These students are college-bound and amaze me every day with how hard working and talented they are! They dive right in to every challenge presented to them with determination and a smile on their face - a constant inspiration!
My Project
These folio storage cabinets are to be used for all students in the music wing: band, chorus and ukulele students. They will all be assigned a slot and with that will hopefully come the ability to keep their music and assignments organized! This is a very basic need but it is sorely missed in our classrooms. With 250 to 300 students in our rooms EVERY DAY, the milk bins we are currently using to store their binders are a disaster! We hope that the addition of these cabinets will become a source of pride and help those with less than stellar organizational skills (we are in middle school...) have a consistent spot to keep their important materials. Again, we hope to be spending more time making music rather than finding it!
Middle school is when students are able to practice and perfect their organizational skills which we know are essential for success in all future endeavors.
Currently, we are using milk bins for 250 students to store their music binders around our music wing and it is a MESS! By providing our students with a consistent place to store their binders it will help them be more successful with keeping their music organized and therefore able to focus their time on making music rather than finding it!
