My students are Autistic from various cultures and backgrounds that love to engage in STEAM learning activities. They continue to discover a love of science, mathematics, and technology. I call them the “Good Doctors” because they are constantly asking questions to gain more knowledge on any given topic.
The "Good Doctors" are taking their show on the road.
These students need to see that science is about "Discovery", and that discovery can be fun. They need to hone their observational skills and learn that being a good observer is a key skill for being a scientist. They need to have some sense of the unknown as well as the known. This is an ideal time to engage students in scientific discovery, since they are naturally curious about the world in which they live.
My Project
The science books will be used to provide a framework to help students understand the world of science. Students could develop anchor charts using the books, to give them a visual representation of the essential points being presented in a science lesson. Science terms are often difficult for students to understand, and these charts could be used as an interactive learning tool.
Anchor charts could be used to support instruction.
As teachers and students are engaging in a lesson, a chart could be developed to capture the most important content and relevant strategies. These charts build a culture of literacy in the classroom. The final draft of students anchor charts, could be posted and displayed in the classroom for future reference.
