My kindergarten through fifth grade students are English Language Learners representing many places including, Cape Verde, Haiti, Portugal, Brazil, and Vietnam. They all range in language abilities, some born in America and some just arriving as newcomer students. Teaching in Brockton, Massachusetts, an urban district with severe budget cuts, can be quite the challenge. My students are eager to learn, and I am always looking for ways to keep them engaged and motivated. We are so lucky to have generous donors like you to make some of classroom dreams a reality!
My Project
As a teacher of English Learners, I model countless listening, speaking, reading and writing strategies for my students in kindergarten through fifth grade!
One of my favorite ways to introduce a new concept or language skill is to give a mini lesson that is outlined on an anchor chart.
Having access to an easel makes it possible to create, instruct, and display anchor charts. My English Learners can refer back to these charts when completing activities over time.
Keeping anchor charts on an easel allows for accessible storage to review key concepts and central lessons. Furthermore, this easel will be accessible throughout our learning space due to the rolling base.
