Anyone who has ever been to our school can agree that this small, open-minded town is like no other. It is a highly diverse environment that encompasses a range of races, socioeconomic statuses and abilities. Here-everybody is welcome. We are a very small educational community of about 550 students who all contribute and impact the personality of our school.
The special education community in our school is a tight-knit group that strives to achieve academic success in a modified, hands-on environment.
Our students range from partaking in academics in a co-taught inclusive environment to a self-contained setting; all which are an integral part of our school. We believe in the value of personalized education, and within our four classroom walls, I make learning come alive.
My Project
Because English is so abstract, it is often difficult for students to comprehend- especially students who have special needs. It is beneficial for students to partake in reinforcing, educational activities to enhance understanding of various techniques and strategies. My students struggle to engage in supportive activities that fit their specific learning needs due to the lack of technological resources, as most learn best when using their natural abilities to manipulate and learn from technology. With the addition of iPads in the classroom, my students can reach their full learning potentials.
By donating to our project, not only will you enhance engagement, but you will also empower students to take control of their own learning and abilities.
In class, students often use manipulatives for a hands-on learning experience when reading and writing. By obtaining iPads, we will be able to amplify the learning benefits of these manipulatives with a technological component beyond the screen. Also, many of my students need audiobooks to accompany the physical text to fully comprehend the books. Not to mention, the amount of assistive technological applications available on the iPad are endless, and I will be able to expand their use to the life skills class as well. The iPads will break the barrier to an inclusive, yet differentiated and diversified education that my students need to succeed.
Overall, without the help of charitable donors, my students are significantly hindered in their abilities to reach their fullest potential. Their interactions with technology can help them open the door to the technological world and alternate means of learning. I wholeheartedly thank you in advance for your generosity!
