My students need scrapbook supplies to analyze the novel The Catcher in the Rye.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Of all the novels I've taught, the one that seems to grab students' attention the most is J.D. Salinger's, "The Catcher in the Rye". Students identify with the troubled teenage narrator, Holden Caulfied.
At my school, a new, small school with 95 percent free lunch and a 45 percent graduation rate, getting students to love a book and want to read is often not an easy task. With "The Catcher in the Rye", my students could be found reading on the train to school or on their own in the lunchroom.
For this proposal, I am requesting scrapbooking supplies for a culminating project on "The Catcher in the Rye". Instead of taking a final test, students will show much they know about the novel by preparing a scrapbook page from Holden’s perspective. The page will illustrate what people, memories, objects, places, and ideas are important to Holden. It will also help students create a deeper understanding of literary devices, by creating and analyzing symbols. All of the students' pages will be combined into a complete class scrapbook.
Most of my students do not get to take art or any other classes that provide a creative outlet until their senior year. Through this project, students will hone their literary analysis skills through a different medium instead of the traditional essay.
Thank you in advance for your kind support!
