Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Community college Spanish courses cost about $100 per semester. For undocumented students, this cost nearly quadruples. My inner city students cannot imagine how they will ever be able to afford these fees, especially my undocumented student achievers.
My inner city students beg for more honors classes.
They dream of going to college and improving their community. One huge help for their college dreams are Advanced Placement classes. High school students receive college credit when they take these classes, which reduces pressure on their families for college tuition and fees. These classes are completely free, but our students rarely pass the difficult exam.
My Project
This year my students will attend extra classes on the weekends and after school to prepare for this very challenging test. They give up their weekends because they love their families, because they dream of brighter futures and because they know college will improve the quality of their lives and change their present living conditions to a better future.
AP practice books will help my students study for this critical exam.
These forty books mean forty students will have the opportunity to get a jump start on college. These books mean my students will have hope that they will be able to pass an exam no one in their families and neighbors could pass. Most importantly, these books will help level the playing field for my students and their privileged peers that have access to similar texts.
Inner city students need access to college. We need you.
