My Students
I teach 3rd & 4th grade combination in a suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina. My students are bright, eager to learn, and full of hopes and dreams. They come from a variety of backgrounds and work together in pairs, small groups, and individually to show mastery in Math & Science.
I absolutely LOVE teaching Math and Science and feel so passionately about standards-based mathematics and hands-on experiences.
I want my students to thrive in our environment and our classroom is a place that we all spend hundreds of hours in each year. The space in which we work is critical to the comfort level of my students and ultimately, their success. By designing an environment that motivates students and makes them feel most comfortable, a higher level of student engagement is the end result. Many students have sensory needs that require them to seek ways in which to move around while working. Items such as yoga balls, wobble stools, crate seats, pillows and adjustable desks impact the culture of the classroom. Our classroom environment should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This simply cannot be done when kids are sitting in rows of desks all day.
My Project

Research shows that some of the immediate benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
