Our school is a Deeper Learning school and my 28 2nd-grade students are excited to learn and grow! We are problem-solvers, we are creators, and we are learners. We collaborate, we communicate, we are creative, we are respectful, we are responsible, we are critical thinkers, we are learning to be good citizens, we are learning mindfulness, and we are learning to be good friends.
My 2nd-grade students are readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, engineers, historians, artists, musicians, and friends.

My Project
In my class this year I'm teaching my students about mindfulness. By teaching students different ways to self-regulate when they get frustrated, overwhelmed, or angry, they can feel that they have more control over themselves.
The cool-down corner will have tools and strategies that will help students self-regulate so they can come back to the class.
Things as simple as bubble timers, monkey noddles, and sequin pillows help students relax and understand the emotions that are happening inside them.
By teaching students mindfulness they become better students, friends, and citizens. These important strategies and skills will stay with them throughout their lives.
