An Opportunity for Worms

My students need 50 worm specimen, 15 dissection guides, 10 dissection tray pads, 12 dissecting scissors, and t-pins.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Collins's classroom raised $168

This project is fully funded

My school is an inner-city public school. We have a very tight budget that must be spread over all classes in all subject areas, which leaves no money for any extra activities. Aside from the budget, the laboratory at our school is in severe disarray. The lab has been used as a storage room for broken furniture, extra book shelves, and old text books for the last 10 years. We are lacking basic science lab equipment and tools.

My sophomore biology students have been asking since the first day of school if we will be dissecting this year. Unfortunately, they do not get the opportunity to do such projects as we lack the supplies. I believe that dissecting worms is one of the most basic, and easiest dissections in biology.

With this project my students will get the hands on experience of dissecting a specimen. They will be able to identify several organs and to look at tissues. I am hoping that by offering this chance to the students they will become very interested in the subject of biology and will obtain a better understanding of the subject. This would be such an amazing learning experience for my students. The trays, scissors, guides, and pins can be reused several more times in the future.

By donating, you will be giving my students the opportunity to participate in a lab that several biology classes do every year.
