This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am blessed to teach an incredible group of kids each year! These kids continually amaze me, year to year, despite the learning challenges they face daily. They are smart, caring, and hardworking. When I tell you they are incredible, that is an understatement. The majority of my sweet students struggle to learn but refuse to give up. Our school is located in a low-income area, where all of the students qualify for free meals.
My students will now enter the classroom for the first time since the pandemic and it’s going to be an adjustment.
My hope is to continue to build a family with my students eventhough it will look a bit different this year. They know that in our class, they will learn even though it may look less traditional than most would imagine. I consider my students' families, and we will continue to work diligently together to maintain this feeling in my classroom.
My Project
Even after 28 years in the classroom, I still struggle to fill my classroom with the basics we need for success. Supplies are hard to come by, and we are in constant need of basics. Glue, pencils, paper, and even snacks for hungry tummies are everyday necessities. Since many in my classroom are struggling with the transition from online to in-person learning and back again, they really need items that can be held, moved, and manipulated. I am hoping the AirPods will make the hybrid learning a bit less cumbersome. When students are I’ll at home, they join our class via Zoom. After attaching Ann the necessary equipment to my computer, I am tangled in a mess of wires making it difficult to teach. AirPods will give me the ability to move freely as I provide both online and in person instruction simultaneously.
In addition, we have found art to an extremely positive way to learn that mistakes are ok and are all part of the learning game.
A child's eyes when discovering a new artist is indescribable! e When children learn differently or need a bit more to succeed, it is my responsibility to find a way to meet their learning needs. Any additions I can bring into the classroom, not only motivate my students, but it also gets them excited about leaning and helps them to keep trying their best.
