This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you think of Kindergarten you may not think technology, but it is an essential part of learning in all grades. Kids love technology and need to be exposed to what the 21st century will demand!
I am privileged to teach 20 Kindergarten students.
They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low income households. Most students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in technological activities outside of my classroom. Due to the lack of funds at our public schools there are not enough funds to get an LCD projector in every classroom and since I teach Kindergarten, I am at the bottom of the priority list for technology.
My Project
We just got a document camera that was donated by generous donors on DonorsChoose but is is only compatible with Epson LCD projectors! Having the LCD projector will allow all students to see books in large print as it is projected in front of the classroom! This will be so exciting for my kindergarteners! They will have the opportunity to come up and point out letters, words, characters, setting, etc. for everyone to see! This is the year that most students learn to read, and those that can need to develop their vocabulary and fluency. Especially important for my EL students is the need to connect vocabulary with the world around them. Students could also learn and practice concepts of print (parts of a book, word tracking, etc.) as a whole group activity.
I am always looking for new ways to improve instruction and learning in my class.
Having an LCD projector will encourage students to work independently as they will have a better understanding after clearly viewing examples modeled before them on our projected screen. By donating to this project, you will share in the success of these students.
