This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a High School math teacher in South Central Los Angeles. My school is a Title I school that is considered PHBAO (Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, or other Non-Anglo). My students all qualify for free breakfast and lunch and comes from primarily low-income families. Many of the students do not have access the tools and knowledge for success in distant learning. With this lack of access, many students are having difficulties adjusting to the nuisances of distant learning in the digital setting.

In the face adversity, my students remain enthusiastic about learning.

Since March 13, the school have been closed and we had to quickly adjust to distant learning. The students remain diligent, patient, and persistent as we all adapt to distant learning. This is very motivating for me as a teacher to expand my teaching toolkit and provide the best distant learning possible for all my students despite the uncertainties caused by the Covid19 Pandemic.

My Project

Like many teachers right now, I'm slowly learning how to adapt my face-to-face lessons into digital format necessary for distant learning. However, I am lacking in the tools and knowledge on creating dynamic lessons that engage and motivate students to learn mathematics. Through its many applications and program designed specifically to enhance teaching and learning, an iPad would be very helpful at this time. With access to programs such as Pages, Keynotes, Imovie, etc. I will be able to create dynamic lessons that would work for both synchronous and asynchronous learning.
