This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 25 students who are currently learning through the platform Google Classroom. However, two of my students do not have access to technology. Our school passed out Chromebooks and iPads to most students but many were left out because there were not enough to distribute. So I will be requesting an iPad for one of them. Hopefully, it gets funded since our district will offer summer school, and we might begin the 2020-2021 school year with distance learning.
Both students who need technology had been impacted economically, too.
In both households, parents have lost their jobs.
My Project
Do you remember your first chore and allowance? If you do, you must have a solid concept of finances and economics. For my students, learning about money is the hardest concept in 3rd grade. Hands-on activities and games seem to help build a good concept about money, and how to save or spend wisely. To a concept that is hard to learn, now we need to add distance learning!
Learning about how to invest, acquire, and finance money, in any grade level, has proven to be one of the most challenging skills learned.
Making change with play money is nearly impossible, without having the chance to play with plastic money. My students need more resources, like the requested Apple iPad. Through Apple applications, they will practice paying exact change, and making change with coins. They will access apps like Count Money, Freefall Money, Make Change, Coin Math, Koala Math Money, Splash Math, Jungle Coins, and My First Money. There are more than 200 other apps that can help my students learn to interact and manipulate US currency. Technology is interactive and engaging, and I want all my students to leave the classroom knowing how to save, invest, and acquire monetary skills at an early age. They will learn about production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, so that one day, they can become entrepreneurs, financial advisers, and savvy consumers. The iPad will also help my student be part of our weekly Zoom meetings three time per week. Thus, I need your generosity, to help me teach economics, during our unprecedented distance learning experience.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
