This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students from my ICT class live in a very poor, urban neighborhood with mostly immigrant families who speak little to no English at home. So, in addition to having students with learning disabilities, the majority of our students are also ESL learners. This makes gauging their interest in both reading and writing difficult to say the least.
Many students in our class do not have computers or iPads at home to access the internet and use educational programs that the school has paid subscriptions to.
As our students continue to grow up in this digital age of technology it is more important than ever that we give them access to technology at an early age so that they are on the same playing field as children who are growing up with more advantages than they are.
My Project
The additional iPad in the classroom will enable my co teacher and I to let more children access our learning programs throughout the day in the classroom. With the additional technology being added, more students will be able to access both our iReady learning program to practice reading and math skills, as well as another reading program called Raz-kids, which our principal has paid for a yearly subscription for our class. As, well as have access to a mathematics program called Extra Math to practice basic fact fluency.
Our ENL and special education students really enjoy using iPads in class.
It gives them much needed quiet time, and a break from classroom activities; they can have fun and learn at the same time.
