My Students
I love my 3rd graders eagerness to learn. Seeing their expressions and their faces light up when I say they get to use an iPad to complete and an activity warms my heart. I know they enjoy their technology time, but with only 4 iPad in our classroom I can't help but notice the faces of those who sit and wonder if they will be the lucky ones to use a portable device or will they be the ones chosen to use a desktop. Unfortunately only having 4 iPads in our classroom, make our computer area a little tight. My students do have a love for learning and do make the most of their technology time.
My Project
Kids and technology seem to go hand in hand. When students get presented with a task that involves technology they get excited about using a tool other than just paper and pencils. Unfortunately my students do not all get to experience using technology on a daily basis due to our limited resources. Currently we have 4 iPads and 3 desktops in our classroom. Students usually work in pairs or triads, when working on an assignment, which makes their work space a little crowded. While they are happy and excited to work on whatever device is given to them, I know that an extra iPad would help ease over-crowding issues.
My eager learners’ world would light up at the possibility of using learning tools at school that they may not be able to use at home.
Students can also get extra screen time and be able to become more familiar with apps and programs that are needed in the 21st century, including the Sphero robot! We have recently been introduced to robotics and applications such as Seesaw and Flip Grid for the iPad. My students have found these opportunities to be captivating and useful in their learning growth. I find that they help motivate students to become better presenters, speakers and innovators. New applications have helped me give them the confidence to share ideas and they are able to provide feedback on peer assignments. With an extra iPad, students will have better access to these and other apps that are not as easy to use and manipulate on a computer due to the inability to record on our desktops. The iPad will also allow them to use their new Sphero Robot and it’s many functions and capabilities. Help me bring this excitement and fun to my students.
