Puppets can express who we really are. I am the Special Education Art Teacher of students from pre-k to fifth grade. I teach a brand new program, following the Blueprints for the Arts, which connects math, science, language arts, and art history to the arts.
This is an amazing program for our special needs population, and given the right chance, could bring a world of knowledge in. My students are very creative individuals, and love to express themselves through the use of puppets. I use puppets to improve their self esteem and to give them confidence in all that they do. I teach them reading and art history by using readers' theater, and having them act the lessons out. They are so in to it, that I believe a puppet theater would really enhance their performance. We would even be able to invite parents in to watch, and see the improvements in their reading levels.
If my students had a puppet theater, and some puppets that reflect smart career moves, they would be more aware of the outside world. They badly need encouragement, and positive acting out is the way to go. After the performance, they could learn responsibility, and place their puppets neatly on a stand, to learn to take care of their things. These resources would greatly benefit my students.
Your help will ensure that my students would get a chance in life to improve their self esteem and hit their goals in life. Every one needs a chance to dream and act it out. We thank you for all the things you do to help. Donors like you help my students excel.
