Remember how our teachers used to project information on the screen using a projector and transparencies? Those days are gone, and now the best way to assist teachers in delivering instruction to students is with the use of a document camera. This is exactly what my classroom needs.
I have 25 wonderful and active kindergartners.
I teach a whole day kinder class and my students are 4, 5, and 6 years old varying in educational background from no preschool experience to transitional kindergarten. They love to learn and are curious about everything and anything! Our school is located within a large urban school district in California.
My Project
At the start of the school year, I was given an older, hand-me-down document camera to assist my classroom instruction. The amazing feature of this item is its ability to project any paper or object onto a white board, from demonstrating a math problem to modeling how to paint watercolor. It doesn't require transparency like the old school projector, saving plastic.
Although I was very excited, it didn't quite work the way I envisioned it for my students. This older document camera has lost its ability to focus and zoom, making it tough for me to set it up. I have to stack several books to elevate a document closer to the camera for it to pick up the image and display it on the board. At times, it is temperamental and doesn't work properly. This makes it difficult for me to teach, forcing me to find alternative way for instruction.
A new document camera would solve our problem.
In order to provide effective instruction, I would like to have a new, advanced document camera, to make teaching and learning efficient.
With so many lessons to teach and standards to learn, my students would greatly benefit from this technology. This particular camera has excellent features, including a remote control, that will allow me to survey the classroom and monitor students. Please help my class get the most out of their learning experience with this wonderful piece of technology!
