My Students
I teach kindergarten to a group of 22 boys and girls who are, on average, below the poverty line. These students have not been exposed to technology such as laptops, iPads, or listening centers. They are very eager to learn and with technology in the classroom they are able to stay engaged and interested in the material I am teaching. With most of the students in my classroom, kindergarten is the first time they have been in a school setting. The technology helps the students catch up with their peers who have attended pre-kindergarten programs.
My Project
An Echo Dot will help in a Kindergarten classroom in several ways. With the way technology is we need a way to keep up and still keep the students engaged and leaning.
One way students in my class will be utilizing the Echo Dot is to self check their work.
Students will be able to ask the Echo Dot if their math equations have the correct answer. This will help on so many different levels. It will help students use the correct academic vocabulary to ask "Alexa" the questions. They will be able to take ownership in their work and also be proud of turning in work they know is completed correctly.
Students will also use the Echo Dot in correlation with an app called SEESAW. With this app students are able to make videos to share with the class and their parents. Students will record themselves asking and getting answers from the Echo Dot. When they share the video other students will also be able to benefit.
There are endless possibilities for the students to use the Echo Dot in the classroom. I cannot wait to see them in action!
