An Easel That Supports Learning

My Project

This easel will benefit both my students and me greatly. My students need explicit instruction in phonics, interactive and shared reading, and writing. My students must have literacy skills modeled so they can learn how to be great readers, spellers, and writers. This easel will help support student learning by giving them a close look into our learning topic while providing hands-on activities to promote the learning skill. It will be exciting for students to come up to show their peers what they can find or add to our lesson. Alongside me, students will be able to manipulate magnetic letters for phonics, use tools to highlight reading skills, or participate in writing in guided practice. This easel is a perfect size because it will be at the students' height, therefore they will be able to reach and engage in a big book, or share the pen with interactive writing. The whiteboard can even be used for word work during their literacy station time. Whole group time is very important to me and absolutely necessary for student growth and progress. It is our time to have deep meaningful discussions that students will carry back with them and apply to their reading skills and writing skills. I need this easel because when I am standing with my back to my students modeling the skills on the whiteboard, I am not able to interact and keep students engaged in the way that is most beneficial to them. It is hard to hold a big book and truly hone in on the skills necessary. Being able to sit and read or write in front of my students will support their learning in an engaging and meaningful way.
