This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade classroom is composed of a very diverse group of eager to learn children. As a first year teacher, I am beyond excited to take on my very own classroom from start to finish! With that being said my classroom is a blank slate and resources are limited.

A large population of my school come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

The school itself is an 100% free lunch school. They struggle to come into school with the tools needed to learn, many of the supplies are given to them to ensure they have what they need to succeed.

Following the aftermath of hurricane Irma and Matthew, my school continues to see a large influx of students from the various devastated countries. I have students from all walks of life. Some have never stepped foot in a public school setting prior to first grade. Many of them are English Language Learners.

My Project

I have one large dry erase board in my classroom, and it has seen better days, it has been in my classroom since the school was build. The students are unable to write on the board because it no longer erases and there is a giant black stain down the side. A double sided dry erase easel would help with not only my math lessons, but also allow for the students to be able to participate more at the board. The storage underneath would allow for me to keep all of my supplies that I need for the particular daily lessons in order and within arms reach. A two sided easel would also give my students the ability to demonstrate what they know to the entire group.
