This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a fourth grade reading and writing teacher it is important for me to provide the necessary materials and instruction for my students to be successful in the classroom. My fourth graders come from very different families and backgrounds in one of the largest school districts in the state of Texas. It is common for the young boys and girls in my class to be the first people in their families to graduate high school and attend college.
We are a Title 1 school in a district that is economically disadvantaged with a very diverse group of students who enjoy coming to school every day.
Fourth Grade is a crucial year for students to showcase their skills in both reading and writing. Please consider helping me help my students reach their full potential this year.
My Project
The wireless headphones for this project will allow students to work hard and engage in specific learning programs, complete district required online testing, and complete research projects using computers without disrupting the flow of the classroom and students working on other assignments. It will also specifically help my ESL students listen to the correct pronunciation of English words. This will in turn help them in other aspects of their education such as reading, for example, which is fundamental in all subject areas. I know from experience that pronunciation can be a key factor to gaining confidence in learning a second language. The sequencing writing materials target building a strong foundation writing different types of essays, which is one of the biggest hurdles fourth graders face. Being a new 4th grade teacher, I need support so that I can better aid my students and make sure that they have a successful year in fourth grade. I'm positive that with the additional encouragement provided through these step-by-step writing materials students who struggle, or do not see themselves as great authors, will gain confidence in their abilities and not be afraid to express themselves as writers.
