My students need art materials, including 24 fun collage frames, 2 sets of weaving baskets, 1 package of scratch art paper, glue, glitter and a bucket of shapes.
I teach a first grade class in a high poverty area of a large city. Our children do not have art or music at our school. Many have poor self esteem and I feel that they should have a chance to express themselves in a different way and art or music is a good outlet.
Our school has no art teacher and no art supplies for the teachers. My children would like to create three or four different projects this spring and need the materials listed to make these projects. We have tried to get donations from various stores in the area but the state of the economy has affected their responses. These children have no art or music classes and need the outlet of being creative in a different way. I think many of them would enjoy making something that they could bring home and treasure. Even a small project is something that they can hold in their hands and show off as their creation.
I would like the children to be able to create picture frames for their final class pictures as gifts for their parents. We need the frame kit and the glue to make this project. We want to make some graphs for our math unit and plan to use the foam shapes to create the graphs. I am hoping using concrete materials will bring the graph to life for the children. We also want to create special Mother's Day pictures by using the scratch paper to make a special treat for each family. The final project will be Easter baskets for the children to take home. These children need something of their own that they created to build their self-esteem and show others their special talents. Too many schools are dropping these areas of instruction. Not all children have talent academically and need to show what they can do in the field of the Arts. Please give them this opportunity to express themselves.
Please help these children to realize their wishes and be able to create some simple projects for the school year. You can help them make projects that they can see and touch. Bring art into the lives of my first graders and watch the smiles light up their faces when they create their own art works. Thank you.
