This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the honor and pleasure of being able to teach and live in the community where my students reside. My students are from low-income families that rely on the school for food and sometimes clothing for survival. I try to bridge that gap. My students mean the world to me. All 12 of them.
I teach self-contained for grades 2 and 3.
Most of my students are boys. More times than none, my students are labeled and pushed aside. Which is unfair because they are so smart and unique. I tell them love being who you are. It is okay to be different. Everyone doesn’t learn the same and that their superpowers are created just for them. That’s what makes them who they are.
In our school community, we teach our students to be lifelong learners who demonstrate grit and take academic risks in pursuit of excellence in everything that they do. My students are courageous risk takers and lifelong learners who can achieve anything they set their eyes upon one "superpower" at a time.
My Project
I have created a classroom where my students use their classroom as a learning tool. Whether it is the anchor charts on the wall or if it is the interactive floor models that personally I create to really drive home the skills needed to be successful academically. The classroom is theirs to use at their disposal. My students enjoy working all over the classroom and working with each other.
In the morning meeting area where I do most of my teaching for whole and small groups is the most heavily used area.
However, the carpet in front of the classroom is coming apart! The ends of the carpet are ripped and the students keep tripping over the ends when walking in the classroom.
Please help provide my students to have a carpet for a safe working place. Thank you.
