This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach science at a Title I High school in an urban environment to 130 students. Out of the 130 students, more than 30% of them are English language learners or Students with Disabilities. My students are very hard-working students; mostly from African, Caribbean, and Central American countries, and struggle to complete assignments at home because they have no one to help them.
My students want to be future doctors, nurses, police officers, psychologists, astronauts, and engineers.
They have goals they want to accomplish and they need access to resources, knowledge, and experiences to help them accomplish those goals.
My Project
The majority of my students live in a home with non-English speaking parents who cannot provide them with help with home assignments. This Macbook Air will allow me to hold google meetings while students are at home, to tutor them while they are home to prepare them for state exams (Living Environment. I can also provide help on any assignments they are having difficulty with at home, where their parents can't help them, which will increase the amount of homework and projects submitted and improve student grades. With the rise in COVID-19 in NY, more and more students are staying home and I am to submit assignments to them so that they do not fall behind. My Macbook air from 2015 no longer has a working camera for google meets, which would allow me to show my face as well as show their work that is not on the computer and is difficult to do on a computer like a graph. The USB ports also do not work to put my flash drive with all my assignments on them.
