Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title I school, meaning more than 95% of the student population are enrolled in a free or reduced-price lunch program and are from a variety of economic backgrounds. They range from all learning levels but have one thing in common: their curiosity about and willingness to learn new topics. Every day, they come to school ready and excited to learn. They are all unique and have amazing futures ahead of them. As a teacher to 130-150 students, I strive every day to provide my students with innovative and exciting learning opportunities. As a teacher to this group, I look forward to being the facilitator who provides my students with skills that are outside of the norm - life skills.
My goal is to provide my students with a foundation in financial literacy, one that will assist them in beginning their journey into adulthood.
My Project
Our students are living in an electronically-driven environment, and the value or importance of financial literacy is somewhere lost between an easy shopping cart click of a button or a Prime next day delivery. It's evident that students need to be more aware of their spending and saving.
My project will help them build a solid foundation of basic budgeting skills.
With the implementation of this project, my students will work hands-on with learning how to use money wisely, setting up checking and savings accounts, creating a budget, using a credit card, interacting with banking apps, and so much more. My students will also become well-versed in being savvy consumers and making more informed financial decisions using this iPad.
