I teach a wonderfully diverse group of second graders. While most are now familiar with iPads, computers, and other electronic technology, many of those same children are lacking the opportunities to create, build, and learn from hands-on STEM projects. The US government projected that the number of STEM job would grow from 14% in 2010 to 62% in 2020. Considering that my students are not expected to graduate from high school until 2029 we can safely assume that an even greater number of them will need to have strong STEM skills.
All of my students deserve an excellent education which includes frequent opportunities to plan and implement STEM projects using Apple iPads that will help them develop critical thinking skills and become effective problem solvers.
My students need regular exposure to authentic Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematical challenges.
My Project
The Apple iPads which I am requesting will give my students the technology to create unique scientific, technological, and integrated art projects. It is time for us to truly enter the 21st Century.
The potential benefits of this project are almost unlimited!
Every week I learn of new ways to integrate technology into the classroom, and I look forward to introducing my students to these new learning experiences and related skills.
Not only will I use the iPad for scientific and technological activities, but I also have plans for integrated art projects. We will use the iPad to record and edit ideas in all subject areas. I have researched and found apps that will easily allow them to do creative editing on the iPad. I will personally use the iPad to create videos which will introduce or reinforce class lessons.
Children often find a lesson more engaging when it is taught in a video format, even if the content of the lesson does not differ from the direct lesson. Video lessons will also allow me to be more creative in my presentation, and to easily present the material multiple times to my class or to individuals who miss the original lesson.
I appreciate your support and belief in my students.
