Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Ouch...it's too loud!" or "We can't hear it!" This is what it's like on a daily basis every time I turn on my boom box to play a CD. The volume button is not functioning properly. Time to replace my 15 year old player. (Can you tell I take care of my stuff?...but all things do come to an end!)

I am a Kindergarten teacher with 25 students.

A great majority of the students at my school come from low-income homes, therefore all students receive free breakfast, morning snack, and lunch. My students love to listen to music and sing and dance along. They enjoy learning and are eager to be active learners. All of what I play is educational and theme oriented.

My Project

Most of my students are English Language Learners. Music plays a vital role in their English Language development. Through songs, poems, and movement, my students are able to express themselves creatively. In addition, by listening/singing to educational songs, my students reinforce concepts and skills necessary for meeting the content standards such as, learning the sounds of the alphabet, learning about the seasons, naming the days of the weeks/months of the year, counting by 10, the value of money, learning to spell high-frequency words, learning about verbs and adjectives, etc. Through daily use of an iPod and speakers, my students will be able to access music to enrich their educational lives and improve student achievement.

By supporting this project, I will be able to access educational music to increase student learning.

By having the necessary technology to play music that enhances their education will be a benefit for my students this year and for many more years to come.
