I teach at a Title I school in which 81% of my students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. About 40% of my students are English Language Learners (ELL).
Although many of my students face adversity, their challenges do not define their ability to learn and be successful students.
Due to COVID-19, I am currently teaching students both virtually and in-person. My Kinders, whether learning in-person or from home, are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They enjoy hands-on activities that keep them actively engaged in their learning throughout the day. They are literally like sponges and soak up every new skill that is introduced to them. Their desire to learn despite the current circumstances simply amazes me!
My Project
Due to COVID-19, I am teaching a hybrid classroom model this year. I teach both in-person and digital learners simultaneously every day. Teaching a hybrid model this school year has presented endless challenges.
My number one goal each school year is to provide a rigorous, hands-on, and engaging learning environment for my students, but with limited and outdated technology, I am faced with daily challenges to not only provide this environment for my students, but I am challenged to meet the needs of all of my learners.
With having the addition of an Apple MacBook Pro in my classroom, not only will this updated piece of technology allow me the opportunity to provide a more effective learning environment for my students, it will allow me the flexibility to meet the ever-changing needs of both my in-person and digital learners. I will have the ability to create engaging lesson plans, and it will ease the challenges I face when meeting with both my in-person and digital learners for small group reading and math instruction. The options to take learning to a whole new level with a MacBook are endless!
In addition, having the use of this upgraded piece of technology will provide me with the opportunity to continue my work at home in the evenings and on the weekends as a teacher's job isn't limited to the classroom environment. I work endless hours outside of the classroom to create and prepare rigorous and engaging lessons for my students. Having a MacBook will help me to provide my students with the instruction they need to be promoted to first grade at the end of this uncertain school year.
Your support of this project will help me to provide my students with a lifelong love of learning during this most important foundational year!
