Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love technology. Unfortunately, we do not have the most up to date computers for them to learn and explore in school. Most do not have a computer at home and do not know the worlds that open up when you have am amazing computer readily available for research and projects.

My students are disadvantaged, inner city children.

Over 95% receive free or reduced lunch. Most are below grade level in both reading and math. However, they have an enthusiasm for learning and have set goals for themselves to become successful in the future.

My Project

My students will work in groups using this computer on a rotating basis. They will learn how to research information, create web sites, create blogs, make movies and make contact with other students throughout the world. It is my hope to eventually have six computers, one for each group of four students. However, this is a beginning and will surely become a motivational device for all. It will also help differentiate learning so that all students can achieve success.

It will open their eyes to the world.

They will be able to have choices in what they want to learn and will be instructed on how to use the Internet responsibly. It will give them an opportunity to explore many appropriate sites and learn about a world that they only have limited access to. They will work cooperatively and discover that the Internet has endless opportunities for learning and for creativity. This exploration will be done in a safe and nurturing environment.
