My students need two Apple iPads to expand the technology experience to more students, and of course they need the protection plan on each one because they are kids and they do have accidents.
As a special education teacher I have the privilege of teaching students with all types of disabilities. My students are bright, active, funny, and most of all in love with technology! The students love to use the internet to play educational games and also produce projects using websites like Prezi.
Unfortunately being able to provide students with technology is not easy due to the limited number of computers available to my class.
You see, my students do not get the latest technology due to the low numbers in my class. Right now we have two very old desk tops and one laptop, for 15 students. Due to being a Title I school, all of our students receive free and reduced lunch. The funds are not available to provide the type of technology my students need. My students are missing out on valuable technological opportunities, that can help with their disabilities.
My Project
My classroom is a pull out special education classroom, what that means is that the students come to me for specialized instruction in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Please do not be fooled by the words special education because in my classroom we work hard and want to prove to others that we can reach new heights and achieve our goals. Technology is a huge resource for me when teaching the students.
We do a lot of researching for writing reports, we use educational games to expand our knowledge, and we use technology to read and listen to books online.
The difficult part is that our technology is limited, meaning there are always a hand full of students who do not get to use the desk tops or the lap top. I have a rotating system in place to give each student a chance at using the three computers we have available, unfortunately even then the students time is so limited they rarely benefit from the experience.
My goal is to provide my students with the technology they need to grow educationally and independently. Our world revolves around technology, and as a teacher I am responsible for getting my students ready for that world.
