This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom buzzes with activity. My students are learning how to be scholars - how to be readers, authors, mathematicians, and scientists. We are working on our communication, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
My kindergarteners are sweet, kind, curious five and six year-olds.
They love school and learning. They come in the door of the classroom every morning excited for the day and what new skills and concepts they will learn. The parents are very supportive and want educational success for their children. The students are almost all on free and reduced rate lunch plans. The majority of the population is English Language Learners. Many of my students do not have access to technology at home and in the classroom there is no technology for the students to use. All children, regardless of race or socioeconomic status, deserve access to the resources and tools in school that will prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
My Project
With iPads, my students will be able to do so many activities! They will be able to play educational games to work on learning their letter names and sounds, sight words, and numbers. They can learn how to do research in small groups. They will be able to explore science concepts through apps, images, and videos. They can video themselves reading and sharing their writing. I can work with small groups on the skills they need while some students are working together on the iPads. I will be able to better differentiate my instruction to meet the diverse needs of individual students.
This project will improve my classroom because it will give my students a chance to learn about and explore technology.
Many of them do not have technology at home and this will help them become 21st century learners. My students often lack background knowledge in different areas. Being able to use technology to explore and research what we are learning about will help close the gap for some of these students and allow them to experience things they otherwise would not be able to.
