My Students
Developing a love of writing takes a lot of work and encouragement for young students. I have found that if I can combine writing with art, the results are usually amazing. Incorporating art in other curriculum areas is vital for young learners.
We are a mixture of all different races and nationalities.
A large percentage of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. They are an eclectic mix of students, but they blend well together. I haven't taught a class this large in many years, but with budget cuts come larger class sizes. It becomes more difficult to meet everyone's needs when you have a larger class. DonorsChoose.org helps to provide extra classroom supplies for my students to use.
My Project
Art in the classroom is critical. With the increasing pressure of testing, sometimes art is the first area to be taken out of the school day. I love the idea of Empowering Students Through Art... especially if I can combine art with other areas in my classroom. Combining art and writing is a sure fire way to engage my students and motivate them. Art makes everything more more fun and powerful.
These supplies will enable me to stock an amazing writing center where students can write narratives, poetry, lists, etc. When they are done, they will have colored pencils, watercolors, markers, pens, or even modeling clay to make their writing come to life through art. Toner & laminating pouches will be used to create journals. The supplies would make our writing center available every day during small group instruction.
My students love art and I love giving them that opportunity in the classroom.
These supplies will help me create a journaling/writing center where each child can write and illustrate stories using paper, paint, or even modeling clay. I will be able to print (in color) and laminate a cover for each child's journal as well. "Empowering Students Through Art" is so much easier with supplies... thank you for considering our class project!
