it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever visited a Montessori classroom? It is such a wonderful place for children to grow and learn.
Our inner city primary Montessori classroom is full of busy, enthusiastic, serious learners who soak up experiences as fast as I can provide them.
Children in grades one, two and three work cooperatively, together each day with a variety of hands-on materials in all subject areas and at all levels.
My Project
One of the strong areas of study in the Montessori curriculum is geography. Even our 6 year olds are able to identify the continents and oceans, landforms and waterforms using the Montessori materials. One of our most used classroom materials is our hanging maps. Through many years of careful use, these maps have stayed in good condition until very recently, when they have actually started to crumble from age. Also because of their advanced age, they are no longer very accurate. We use these maps daily to identify places, do research, and examine our world.
The addition of new hanging maps in our classroom, accompanied by the seven continent map study books, will allow the children in our classroom to continue to learn and develop geography and research skills.
Maria Montessori said, "The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences."
Thank you in advance for helping us to create such a rich classroom environment that will foster the love of learning in our children.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
